Post-Doctoral Research Associate: Stellar Modelling for Nuclear Astrophysics at the University of Edinburgh

Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position funded by the
ERC Starting Grant project DoRES which addresses nuclear reactions of importance for
the creation of elements in stars. The successful candidate will perform numerical
simulations of nucleosynthesis processes in stars and stellar explosions. In particular, the
work will focus on the origin of the heavy elements, for example in massive stars and core
collapse supernovae.


The successful applicant will have or will be about to obtain a PhD in computational
astrophysics, nuclear astrophysics, or a related discipline. Prior experience in using and
developing nucleosynthesis and stellar evolution codes is essential. The candidate would
be expected to interact closely with the experimental nuclear astrophysics research
programme, with the aim of exploring the astrophysical impact of experimental results and
to identify key goals for future work.

The position is available from September 2017 for 3 years, with a possible extension until
31 May 2021, when the ERC funding period ends.
