Chemical Elements as Tracers of the Evolution of the Cosmos

Postdoctoral position on chemo-dynamical simulations of radioactive isotopes in galaxies

We invite applications for a post-doctoral position on chemo-dynamical simulations of radioactive isotopes in galaxies. The position is funded by Dr. Maria Lugaro's ERC project “RADIOSTAR" (Radioactivities from Stars to Solar Systems, http://konkoly.hu/radiostar/), at Konkoly Observatory in Budapest, Hungary, and involves an extensive collaboration with Dr. Chiaki Kobayashi at the University Hertfordshire, UK, including several visits to Hertfordshire. This position will be available from the beginning of September 2018, initially for two years, and renewable for one or two more years. Applicants with some experience in numerical simulations of galaxies and/or knowledge of C or C++ would be preferable, but anyone with interests in nuclear astrophysics and numerical simulations is encouraged to apply. Generous travel funds will be provided for visits to collaborators and to attend major conferences in the field.

Konkoly Observatory (www.konkoly.hu) is a thriving research environment with roughly 50 staff astronomers working on a wide range of stellar astrophysics. The University Hertfordshire (www.herts.ac.uk/research/centres-and-groups/car) is one of the largest astrophysics groups in the UK, with many researchers working on observations and simulations of galaxies and stars. Hertfordshire also hosts a local Linux cluster that is available for this project.
