Chemical Elements as Tracers of the Evolution of the Cosmos

ATOMKI (HU)

Institute for Nuclear Research (Hungary)

Atomki is the leading institution in nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics in Hungary. Its laboratories provide service for external (national and international) and internal users and contribute to higher education, as well. Atomki has the largest accelerator center in the country.

Out activity focuses on both fundamental and applied research, covering a broad range of modern physics: atomic and subatomic physics, materials science, and several other areas employing the techniques of physics research, such as the environmental and biomedical sciences. This multidisciplinarity has been gradually built on the basis of particle accelerators and the associated analytical facilities.

One of the main activities at the accelerators is nuclear astrophysics. Based on the wide range of beam energies, various processes of astrophysical interest have been successfully studied.
