CNRS - IPHC (FR)
CNRS is represented by the Institut Pluridisciplinaire Hubert Curien.
Created in 2006, the Hubert Curien Pluridisciplinary Institute (UMR7178, CNRS-IN2P3-INC-INEE, University of Strasbourg)is an example of the success of multi-disciplinary: three laboratories of different scientific cultures (eco-physiology, chemistry and subatomic physics) have come together into a single institute. The aim was to create an ambitious institute using different skills to develop high-level multidisciplinary programs with scientific instrumentation as a foundation. This will, supported by our guardianship, was the result of the realization, in recent years, of the need to combine the knowledge and skills of their researchers from different scientific backgrounds, in order to answer in the most complete and relevant way possible the universal questions of today.
The three original laboratories now constitute three departments of the IPHC: the Department of Ecology, Physiology and Ethology (DEPE under the responsibility of Caroline Habold), the Department of Subatomic Research (DRS under the responsibility of Sandrine Courtin) and the Department of Analytic Sciences (DSA under the responsibility of Eric Marchioni). In 2016, the Department of Radiobiology, Hadrontherapy and Molecular Imaging (DRHIM under the responsibility of Patrice Laquerriere) was born out of the need to bring together themes already present at IPHC and emerging projects around the Cyrcé cyclotron.
The success and therefore the strength of the IPHC lies in the Institute's multidisciplinary programs, which have been able to develop with relevance since 2006 while continuing to conduct research at the highest international level in the respective scientific fields of each department.
As the spearhead of the IPHC, developments in instrumentation are the key to success. The large number of engineers, technicians and administrative staff (nearly 160 agents) makes a considerable impact on scientific projects thanks to their expertise and responsiveness.
