The Institute of Astronomy and National Astronomical Observatory (IA and NAO), Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is the largest astronomical scientific organization dealing in Bulgaria. NAO Rozhen is the largest astronomical complex in south-eastern Europe and a major training center for students in astronomy in the region. NAO Rozhen has three telescopes for optical observations. The largest telescope is 2-meter Ritchey-Chretien Coude telescope equipped with echelle spectrograph ESpeRO. More than 40 astronomers work in IANAO making research on stellar atmospheres and stellar evolution, studying diferent types of stars, and also galaxies, the Sun and the minor planets in solar system.
